Q&A about MSL Launch Workshop
Instructor Andrew Dennis attended the Mars Space Laboratory Launch Workshop on November 21-26 at the Hilton Hotel/Kennedy Space Center in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Q: What was the purpose of this workshop?
A: The workshop consisted of two days of classes with VIP access to the rocket launch. I did not attend the launch because they changed the date, but I was fortunate enough to receive some pictures from some professional networks. The facilitators from the workshop presented general information about Mars. Some of the information consisted of : location, geology/geography, temperature, atmosphere, radiation levels, and gravity.
Q: Did the classes only consist of lecture based information?
A: They also implemented various hands on activities that related to craters, volcanoes, and carving channels. During the process of the training we had an opportunity to meet scientists/engineers that were actually working on the mission. The facilitators also gave an explanation of the Countdown to Curiosity Mission.
Q: Why are we going to Mars again?
A: We are going to Mars to investigate whether the conditions of the planet shows signs of microbial life or clues of past life.
Please enjoy the pictures of the launch that were shared with us.
