STARBASE 2.0 Mentor Program

Mission

STARBASE Mentoring combines STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities with a relationship-rich, school-based environment to provide the missing link for at-risk youth making the transition from elementary to middle school. It extends the positive impact of STARBASE through a team mentoring approach which solidifies students’ attachment to school and engagement in STEM.

The Model

  • School-based (after school program)
  • Team mentoring
  • Targeting 6th – 8th graders
  • STEM activities
  • Team building
  • Goal setting
  • Clubs meet for 4 hours per month for 6 to 9 months
  • Minimum of 40 students served per pilot program

Outcomes For Participating Youth

  • Increased STEM interest and knowledge
  • Increased communication and collaborative skills
  • Increased awareness of personal goals and career opportunities
